Denmark Picks Thales RSM NG Radar to Track Aircraft Over the Faroe Islands
Denmark's defense acquisition organization selected Thales to replace the RSM 970 secondary surveillance radar at Sornfelli in the Faroe Islands with an RSM NG system. Announced October 7, the installation combines Mode S interrogation and ADS-B data to identify and track transponder-equipped aircraft for air traffic control. Thales expects delivery and installation in under six months while maintaining uninterrupted controller services at the site. The acquisition supplies cooperative aircraft surveillance, distinct from Denmark's separate TPY-4 primary military radar program, which is intended to detect aircraft without depending on their transponder replies.
