NATO In 'Overdue' Move To Include Space In Defense Planning Process
NATO plans to incorporate space into the NATO Defense Planning Process, the alliance mechanism that translates collective requirements into capability targets for member states. Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Air Chief Marshal Johnny Stringer described the step as overdue, because satellites and space services now underpin communications, navigation, intelligence, warning, and targeting across every operational domain. Formal inclusion means allies can be assessed against agreed space needs, creating clearer procurement and investment signals for resilient communications, surveillance, command systems, launch access, and protection of orbital services.
