Russia's New Stealthy Lower-Cost Air-Launched Standoff Weapons On Display In Egypt
Russia displayed the S-71K Kovyor, S-71M Monokhrom and S8000 Banderol at the El Alamein International Airshow as comparatively inexpensive air-launched standoff weapons. The S-71M is a compact turbojet-powered design that incorporates an OFAB-250-270 fragmentation bomb and relies primarily on inertial guidance. The more refined and visibly stealthier S-71K has been associated with electro-optical guidance and additional onboard processing, while the smaller Banderol is intended to provide another economical long-range strike option. Their appearance supports Russia’s export campaign and emphasis on massed precision firepower, although detailed performance and production figures remain unverified.
