Military AI pushed deeper into UK combat systems
The United Kingdom allocated £300 million for military artificial-intelligence programs from 2026-27 through 2029-30, pushing the technology into targeting, command and control, and underwater surveillance. Funding is intended to move useful tools from trials into deployable combat systems while improving data fusion and decision speed. Deeper integration may enhance detection, prioritization, and coordination across forces, but it also increases demands for secure data, testing, and human oversight. Operational adoption will require assurance against bias, cyberattack, unreliable outputs, and loss of accountability in time-critical decisions within accountable command chains.
