AeroVironment Nabs First International Order For LOCUST Counter-Drone Laser System

AeroVironment received the first international purchase order for its LOCUST directed-energy counter-drone system in a direct commercial sale valued above $50 million. The customer, number of systems and delivery schedule were not publicly identified. LOCUST combines sensors, command software and a high-energy laser intended to defeat drones at a very low cost per engagement once deployed. The export order broadens the system’s customer base after operational use and follows a separate $464.8 million United States Army award for the Enduring High Energy Laser program and mobile force protection.
