Britain prepares HMS Astute for major mid-life revalidation after 15 years, sustaining Royal Navy attack-submarine capability

HMS Astute, lead boat of the Royal Navy's nuclear-powered attack submarine class, is preparing for a Mid Life Re-Validation Period after completing a 15-year first commission. The work will be conducted at Babcock's Devonport dockyard, although the government update did not specify its cost, timetable or technical scope. The overhaul will sustain the submarine until the future SSN-AUKUS class begins replacing Astute-class boats from the late 2030s.
