Japan's Type 25 Missile Goes Public With a Reported 1,000 km Range

Japan displayed equipment for the Type 25 surface-to-ship guided missile at Camp Kengun in Kumamoto on October 3, 2026, its first public showing since deployment in March. Developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from the upgraded Type 12, the system uses truck-mounted launchers and has a reported range of about 1,000 km, although the Defense Ministry has not published an official figure. The display included a launcher and ammunition carrier, with the missile itself withheld from public view. The system is scheduled to deploy during the October 19-29 Keen Sword 27 exercise; no live firing has been announced.
