Polish defense official says US has decided to establish a base in Poland

Polish Deputy Defence Minister Pawel Zalewski says Washington has decided to establish a permanent U.S. military base in Poland, but the Pentagon has not confirmed the claim. Poland has offered to cover infrastructure costs and pay about $15,000 annually for each stationed American service member as negotiations continue over forces, capabilities and locations. Both governments had previously expressed interest in a more enduring presence on NATO's eastern flank. Until the United States announces an agreement, the proposal's legal status, scale, basing site, timetable and command arrangements remain unresolved.
