US Air Force seeks air-defense guns to protect overseas bases
The United States Air Force issued a request for information for a portable Ground-Based, Medium-Caliber Gun Weapon System to protect overseas bases. The concept prioritizes affordable ammunition against subsonic cruise missiles and uncrewed aircraft from small Group 1 drones through large Group 5 systems. Requirements include organic sensors, integration with wider command networks, sufficient magazine capacity and the ability to counter saturation attacks from an austere, transportable footprint. Responses are due October 9, and the notice is market research rather than a funded production contract or selection of a specific caliber.
