Military personnel data exposed in breach, agency warns

A vulnerability in a Defense Manpower Data Center file-sharing system allowed unauthorized users to access unencrypted personal information between October 2025 and July 16, 2026. Exposed data included Social Security numbers and at least one additional identifier, while officials cited by Military Times said approximately four million Defense Department personnel could be affected. The department said it had no indication of misuse and patched the affected system after discovering the vulnerability.
