Northrop to build GPS-free navigation for three navies

The U.S. Navy awarded Northrop Grumman a $29.2 million contract on September 30 for low-rate initial production of AN/WSN-12 inertial navigation systems, with options raising the potential value to $103.6 million. The scope includes maintenance assistance modules, engineering support, integration and testing for equipment that provides navigation independently of GPS. Canada funds 42% and Australia 31% through Foreign Military Sales, with the U.S. Navy providing the remaining 27%. Work is concentrated in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland, through May 2030, extending to July 2032 if options are exercised; quantities and recipient ships were not disclosed.
